The StreamShark Live Polling feature allows you to engage your audience in real-time by asking questions and gathering instant feedback during your live stream. This can help drive audience interaction, collect opinions, or guide the direction of your content based on viewer input. This guide explains how to create, manage, and run Live Polls for your StreamShark Events.
This feature is available for customers on Business and higher plans (see https://streamshark.io/pricing/). Please contact support if you are interested in using this functionality as part of your live event workflow.
Create a Live Poll
1. Head to the Manage Events page by clicking on Streaming Events in the left-hand menu of the StreamShark portal.
2. Click on the name of an existing event, or create a new one. For help on creating a live event, see here for more details: https://support.streamshark.io/hc/en-us/articles/360002755952-How-to-Create-a-Live-Streaming-Event.

Response options have a maximum of 200 characters each.
-
Allow voting for multiple options: Enabling this will allow voters to select multiple responses when voting. The total number of voters and total votes will both be displayed in the results.
-
Show results after voting: Enabling this will immediately show each voter the poll results after they have submitted their vote.
-
5. Once you have created your Poll, you can manage its voting or edit it from the Actions column.
Use Live Polling During an Event
1. Broadcast your event stream (see: How to Create a Live Streaming Event).
2. Once the stream is live, ensure your event phase is set to Main Event in the Workflow tab:
3. Navigate to your event’s shareable player by going to the Overview tab and opening the Player Page in a new tab.
4. Return to the Polls tab and click the voting icon in the Actions column:
5. Send the poll to your audience by clicking the Open Voting button. The poll will appear in the player within approximately 20 seconds. Viewers can select an answer and submit their vote instantly:
6. Poll results can be viewed in real-time within the portal:
7. The poll can be closed by clicking the Close Voting button. Once the vote is closed viewers will no longer be able to vote. Closing voting is not mandatory.
8. If you would like to share the poll results with your audience this can be done by clicking the Send Results to Viewers button:
Notes
- Live Polling is currently only available for StreamShark Events; it is not supported for Live Schedules streams or VOD content.
- Voter names are not recorded at this time. Support for collecting voter names will be added in a future update.
-
You can open voting for multiple polls during a stream, but only one poll will be visible at a time.
-
If you edit a poll, you will need to use the Resend Voting Prompt button for the changes to appear.
- Once a viewer has voted, they will not be prompted to vote again. If a viewer hasn't voted they may receive the voting prompt again if the operator uses the Resend Voting Prompt button.
-
Once a poll is closed, viewers can no longer vote, but results will remain visible if you have enabled Show results after voting or used the Send Results to Viewers buttons.
-
If results are sent before a viewer has had a chance to vote, the results panel will allow the viewer to navigate back to voting, unless the poll has already been closed.
