Latency is a critical factor in live streaming, especially for events where real-time delivery is paramount. The Optimized Latency Event type strikes a balance between low latency, reliability and scalability, offering a comprehensive feature set while ensuring high-scale event delivery.
This feature is currently available to selected accounts. If you'd like to try it, please contact StreamShark support (support@streamshark.io).
1. How to create an Optimized Latency Event?
If the Optimized Latency Event option is enabled in your account, it will appear in the Event type dropdown as Optimized Latency. Simply select this option when creating your Event.
2. Where is the DRM option?
For Optimized Latency Events, the Digital Rights Management (DRM) option no longer appears as a separate settings. However, if any Privacy Settings are enabled for your event, DRM will be automatically enabled to ensure protection of your content.
3. What ingest server should I choose?
To minimize latency, always select the ingest server closest to your production signal. This helps reduce the time it takes for your stream to reach our server, ultimately lowering overall latency.
4. How does this compare to a Standard Event?
The Optimized Latency Event type is designed to be as similar as possible to the Standard Event in terms of setup and functionality. The main difference lies in its optimized workflow for reduced latency. From an encoder settings perspective, there are no significant changes.
5. What latency can be achieved?
With the optimized workflow engine on the ingest server, you can expect a consistent 10-12 seconds of latency, which allows for a smoother, reduced latency time experience for large scale events.
6. Can I achieve even lower latency?
If you require further lower latency, you can consider using the Low Latency Event type. However, this comes with certain limitations. Please reach out to the StreamShark support team for more details and assistance.
