Overview
The Priority Stream feature enhances the Event live streaming experience by allowing operators to select which stream should be loaded first when using a backup server. This enables production flexibility while ensuring that viewers receive the best possible stream quality without interruption.
Key Points:
-
By default, the primary feed is priority.
-
A stream can only be made priority if a video feed is detected.
-
When enabled, the selected stream (primary or backup) will be the first to load for viewers.
-
Viewers with the player open will switch to the selected stream, which may briefly interrupt playback.
How to Use the Priority Stream Feature:
1. Create an Event with primary and backup streams:
2. Now that we have an Event with primary and backup streams, navigate to the Event’s “Workflow” tab.
3. Scroll down to the stream you would like to prioritize. Note that by default the primary stream will be priority, indicated by the “Priority Stream“ text. To make the backup stream priority, click the “Set as Priority Stream“ button and confirm the change.
After confirming the change, the backup stream will be loaded first, and any viewers with the player currently open will be switched to the selected stream, which may briefly interrupt playback.
Benefits of Using a Backup Stream:
-
Improved Stream Quality: By prioritizing the most reliable stream, you ensure your viewers receive the best possible quality.
-
Automatic Failover: In case the primary stream fails, the backup server will take over seamlessly.
-
Control Over Stream Delivery: You can manage and optimize your streaming setup according to your needs.
